Treasuring Nuestras Identidades with Dr. Patricia Arredondo, PhD.
There are many terms being used to categorize persons of Latinx/e heritages but most fall short of the complexity of our individual intersecting dimensions of identity.
Honoring our personal multicultural/multiracial heritages from different Spanish-speaking nations involves multiple dimensions.
Of course, colorism is an inherent part of our visible identity as well. Otherbirthright dimensions are our gender and sexual orientation identities. Geographic and language influences are socializing forces as well.
As individuals, we all have ways we wish to self-identify and need to strengthen that resolve in spite of racist and other discriminatory attributions about Latinx/e people.
Treasuring Nuestras Identidades has to be intentional.
